This cycle route begins at Rocca di Staggia on the Via Francigena, a key historical location in the battles that raged between Siena and Florence centuries ago.
From here there are various routes you can take to discover the local countryside and towns. The Valle di Staggia itself is home to an infinite number of routes that touch on the Vie Romee and the Via Francigena, as well as being home to many castles, chapels, churches and hostels – each of which tells a part of the history of the region and its history of welcoming and helping pilgrims. We offer guided tours on electric bicycles along ancient pilgrim routes to explore local hospitality, which is traditionally offered by anywhere bearing the symbol of Florence’s Santa Maria Nuova.
Many different routes are available and none are particularly challenging. Most of the routes travel along country tracks and so traffic is almost non-existent. Each tour is led by an experiencedcountryside guide.
