What did people eat in the Middle Ages? How was food typically prepared? What cutlery did people use? To get answers to these questions and more, you are invited to dinner at Parco della Fortezza Medicea in Poggibonsi to sample a selection of dishes from various moments in the town’s history. The meal is separated into five different eras:
the Goth Dinner (5th-6th century)
the Lombard Dinner (7th-8th century)
the Carolingian Dinner (9th-10th century)
the 13th Century Dinner
the Renaissance Dinner (16th century).
The menu is carefully organized and based on detailed research into the typical dishes from each historical era, which are then slightly modernized to bring out the flavors and strike the right balance between historical accuracy and modern taste. The food is served by archaeologists in historical costume who will entertain guests with historical information, stories and re-enactments of daily life.
By trying this experience you will forget for a day the routine and the worries of modernity.
