This experience is genuine experimental archaeology at its best: step back in time to the 9th century and gain an understanding of what life was like in the Poggio Imperiale village in Poggibonsi.
Poggibonsi’s Archeodrome invites you to spend a day in the company of the inhabitants of this Carolingian village, played by archaeologists dressed in period clothing. They will transport you back in time and give you the chance to try some medieval artisan rural crafts.
When you arrive, you will be given period clothing to wear and a name straight out of the Middle Ages. You will be welcomed into the village by a small community busy carrying out their daily chores. You will become a member of the community for a day and will get hands-on experience of tasks such as helping in the kitchen, assisting the blacksmith in the forge, working with the farmer, weaving, dying thread or carpentry. After eating together around the fire in the longhouse, you will be treated to a story from the period.
This is also a great day out for children who will enjoy discovering what life was like in the past, with the help of our expert archaeologists and actors.
